Default DVX100a feature "Tangled Web" - TRAILER!

See what you think. (And then tell me.)

This was posted in the 'User Films' thread, but only got sparse attention. I'm hoping more people in this thread will want to discuss.

Thanks!

interesting concept, but my worry would be that the film could get boring with no camera movement. Is every shot set up like a web cam?

Yes, every shot is setup that way. That's one of the reasons we were able to shoot the whole movie in less than 4 days.

We were concerned about that too. We tried to compensate with staging. 'Close ups' are done by physically putting the actors close to the camera, for instance. Also, some scenes are conversations via webcam between two characters, so there is cutting back and forth between them.

Interestingly, people who've seen the movie don't seem to get bothered by the lack of camera movement. Some were concerned that it might be a problem, but they get caught up in the characters and the story and tended to forget all about it. Which we love, of course.

Looks really boring, and the "stealth mode" effects look really cheesy :P

I watched it in silent mode, so, just the visuals. I'll have to watch with sound... but in terms of such comments as 'camera movement', etc. I wasn't too bothered by that... What did strike me is what I tended to preceive as 'overacting'. Also, and this is difficult to deal with, it seemed on several shots the images was somewhat 'dark'. I've noticed this on lots of DVD, Computer presentations, and even in theater presentations of films. I'll have to watch again, and give some times, and why I was 'disturbed' by them...

Interesting. I appreciate your input. Please let me know what you think on re-watching.

I'm curious -- why did you watch without sound? And in what was was the 'overacting' evident without sound?

Thanks so much!

Ok. So I rewatched on my Mac, rather than a PC. The Mac's display seems better. But I did notice, that at about 0:50, there's a shot with a guy in brown pants against the closet door, which on the PC was 'pretty dark', on the Mac was separated, but still seemed to blend too much for me.

I also watched 'mit saund'... I think the black sequences can be tightened up a bit. In the 'movie' it may work for a couple of seconds to go by and no video, but it seems to me for a 'trailer' they were a bit long. (heck I think when the woman is seen with the gun, the screen should go black with gunshots...)

As for with or without sound... I often watch shorts and trailers, even the 'pro' current hollywood offerings without sound. If I can get the 'story' from the visuals, I think for shorts and trailers that's a good thing.

Not a bad idea about cutting to black and straight to the gunshots. What about the accompanying scream?

The shot you mention with the guy in dark pants -- that is a night scene. It does show up a bit better on a TV from the DVD, but it's supposed to be darker than the other shots.

Thanks for the help!
