Isaac, about the sharpness, is the filter only usable for close ups and mediums or is there enough sharpness left for establishing external shots ? If not asking too much, would it be possible to post a full res 1080p frame grab of a very wide shot or at least a full shot with and without the filter?
Thanks in advance. This filter may be the "solution" we are all looking for. Last edited by Sttratos; 11-04-2009 at 06:29 AM. |

I also had good results with the cokin system, using the netties 143 and 145, especially the 143 quits a lot of moiré though there is some softness, too. But you will get a nice, not TOO soft look, maybe desireable for some some your stuff.

For me the smaller the sharpness loss the better really. I'm looking forward to Isaac's reports.

"J" brings up an interesting question here: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showpost.p...05&postcount=5 Do you have any idea if focal length has a significant impact on which strength CapRock filter one "should" use? Again, your efforts on this topic are much appreciated!

I'll post some footage when I have some free time. I'm working on a feature script so that takes precedence over Caprock tests at the moment. I'll find some nice juicy moire stricken brick buildings to shoot soon enough.

I posted this once before, but has anyone tried Tiffen softFx filters to see what effect if any they have on the aliasing and moire problems?

could you use this with another filter like the fader nd? how would you stack them? would you need the double filter ring to put the fader in front of the anti-moire

I have a Soft-FX #.5 # 1 & #2. I have stacked them together on video cameras. They work well to soften the nasty video look on older SD broadcast cameras and don't blur the image too much because of the dimple design in the glass as apposed to etched glass filters. The .5 is very light but useful. As for the question about stacking with a fader ND I'm not sure what size that filter is, but these are standard 72mm thread front and back. Maybe someone at Caprock is listening to this post and can tell us the advantages of their anti-aliasing filters over the Soft-FX design, and what does the Caprock anti-aliasing filter actually do technically. |

I've been speaking to the caprock people and they now offer a 4x4 glass filter at the 2.0 range, but it's limited to 3"x3" of the glass... Kinda lame, but better than nothing.
