Hey, just saw your short. Very fun and enjoyable. I can see a lot of work was put into this.

The writting/acting was pretty good, but not great. There were a few scenes that we're leaving me a bit uncomfortable because of the acting and/or writting. But hey, it still kept me watching till the end, which is saying a lot, especially for something over 5 minutes, lol (damn short attention span).

I'm guessing you couldn't get them to kiss cause they're in relationships or not actors? Or did you not feel like doing that? Was kinda hoping for that long awaited kiss at the end, but all I got was a kiss on the cheek.

I have to say though, I loved the movie scene with his friend calling him when he's 2 feet away, or calling him to bring popcorn. The friend was a nice touch, all the quotes, being an english major, tagging along and recording glances. Loved that!

Haha, yea. It's very difficult at this stage of casting to get actors who are comfortable with kissing on camera. I even have to ask people before hand at the audition if the kiss of the cheek was OK.

In that same scene, when she first enters the room, the original line had her asking for beer instead of juice. It was changed at the last minute because the actress was under 21 and she didn't want her parents to see her drinking (pretend) alcohol on screen.

Hehe, yeah, I used to be like that. But I got my actors to kiss on one of my shorts. It was a bit awkward, but I basically asked them if they were okay with kissing each other, they both asked if they were in a relationship and they both said no, then got the thumbs up.

When dealing with actors, just be firm in the auditions. Say "the role requires a kiss, are you okay with this?" It's tough, but if they're aspiring actors, or regular actors, they have to deal with this all the time, even if they're in a relationship. Just make sure to deal with it in a professional way. That's acting after all. But I'll stop rambling.

My first thought when working on the project...

1.) Malcolm has conflict with Kristin

2.) Malcolm doesn't tell Andrew about his relationship with Kristin, but encourages him to ask her out

3.) Kristin realizes Malcolm and Andrew are in the same class

4.) After the birthday scene, Andrew tells Malcolm that Kristin had asked him out.

5.) Malcolm is up close with Andrew at the theatre to see what Kristin and Andrew are up to. When Andrew walks up to the ticket booth, Malcolm gives Kristin a call and tells her that he's very "lonely" at home and wants to talk with her. As soon as Kristin leaves, Malcolm calls Andrew back to make him even more upset.

6.) During the truck scene, Andrew wants Malcolm to hand letter to Kristin. As soon as Andrew disappears, Malcolm walks Kristin to school and hands her letter. She reads it, and tells Malcolm to give it back to Andrew. Malcolm opens letter and reads it. Malcolm is upset in the apartment and couldn't believe this is happening.

I love my school. It's pretty awesome if you're emphasizing on cinematography.

very good, the flex track def created great shots... lighting and coloring what lil off in a few scenes but i loved it! I liked the music too.

So how did you get the music in the movie? Guy actually created new songs for the film?

Ah, the music is a whole 'nother area of headache. If you noticed, there are five credited composers for this film. One of them is my roommate, who wrote two songs (including the title track), another song is from my co-editor, one person played the song on the piano so we can record it, and another song (Afterfall) I received permission to use from the artist through Myspace.

Even so we didn't have enough music for the entire film, a fact that I didn't find out until the week before the film premiered. So for the premiere we ended up using royalty free placeholder tracks; after that I paid another composer to score the rest of the film and replaced those tracks. It's definitely a lot easier to get the score once the film is finished instead of guessing how much music we'll need.

Anyway, it turned out to be a good thing because the composer I went with was a mind-reader in term of what I'm looking for, and we'll be working together for my next two films!

I liked the one song, im guessing the main song... the one that plays during the credits... catchy and perfect for a romantic comedy like this.

I really liked it, nice work.

The best thing I can say about it is that it was easy to watch the whole 30 minutes; I never wanted to turn it off. Well paced, engaging, and funny.

Sometimes it felt like it was straining believability, like how much of a flake could that girl actually be and how much abuse the guy was willing to take. It definitely had a strong kernel of truth to it though, who hasn't felt like that at one point or another.

The best scenes were the ones between the roommates. These were the funniest I thought.

The least effective were the classroom scenes. These scenes looked very much out of place with the realism of the rest of the movie. The teacher looked to be the same age as the other students and was a bit over the top.

All in all - great work.
